I'm rather fond of prestige classes. Of course I don't think I've ever used a prestige class "Out of the Box". Most prestige classes seem to be written for some 'generic' world. My first reading as to the point of Prestige classes was that they were supposed to be intimately tied to the world. Because of this, all prestige classes have at the very least organizational, regional, etc requirements added on. This is one of my pet peeve topics, sorry for sticking my nose in. I see a lot of "Prestige classes are bad" posts, but I don't think the problem is with the PrC.. its with people's inability to use them as intended and a lot of inability to write them correctly.
