Some SJ representations in other series

I know lots of people have mentioend various Sci-fi and a few fantasy
series to build their SJ worlds on and in general I ignore those posts
as I'm not interested.  An interesting series I've recently started
that seems to have some descriptions DMs might want to look at for SJ
(specifically the phlogiston though certain magical items/effects might
be mimicked as well) is the David Drake Leary Series.  The only one
I've read so far is Lieutenant Leary Commanding but it's got some cool
ideas and descriptions SJ DMs might want to peruse.  The idea of wakes
from ships seems particularly interesting to me, especially when you
ask, "How can anyone see another vessel at engagement range in a
glowing gas cloud?"
