I have not tried 3ed for Spelljamming, I'm still using
2ed rules for that, but i had a player in the 3ed
regular D&D game who had a +15 to Spot checks. If he
was there, i only had him roll to see if he rolled a
1. I could never hide anything from him. I sometimes
had to impose truely horendous negatives just so he
couldn't waltz through a dungeon blithely.
