Depending on the context. I don't remember the case, but there was one awhile back where some newspaper published only one paragraph from a book, and the newspper lost a lawsuit afterwards suing them for copyright infringment. It was considered to be the "core" paragraph of the book. Kind of an extreme case, but just be careful out there ;) The above is kinda off topic, but I thought it was important. On another note, anyone have any interesting ideas for the Arcane? I haven't seen anything as of yet in 3E about them...in a campaign I used to run, they were always a very interesting "shadowy" group running around and manipulating things in teh background for their own plans. To not quote your sources, and copy from someone even has it's own verb. It's called "plagiarism." 1. To use and pass off (the ideas or writings of another) as one's own. 2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another). By citing your sources, you are definitely NOT plagiarizing. If you cite too much, i.e. copying pages and pages from the book, and then distributing it, you could violate the copyright of the book. But it would really have to be a lot of chapters, there would have to be something in it for the copyright holder to want to sue you, and like Leroy says, "you are not quoting enough for it to be a problem." -eric- --- Leroy Van Camp III <malacoda@????????.net> wrote: > On Friday, August 8, 2003, at 03:56 AM, PT wrote: > > > BTW, I'm quoting directly from the above mentioned products here; am I > > violating something or someone? > > You are not quoting enough for it to be a problem. > > > Leroy Van Camp III > malacoda@????????.net > ICQ #20039817 > > There is a time for bingo and there is a time for funerals.
