Which explains why certain runes have the properties they have, because they
mimic naturally occuring ley lines.  If an aspiring mage can comprehend the
pattern the rune describes, he can master the related magic, in the same way
a chemist who can comprehend the periodic table of elements can master the
described aspects of chemistry.
