Well let me try to explain a bit further, 1. The midpoint of each ribbon is a debris field which includes dirt and rocks. In some places this debris feild is very thick and solid. 2. The 10 large islands and numerous small islands give locations where the sea plants and creatures such as coral and oysters can attach. 3 Plankton and floating seaweed is also numerous partially due to the excess of firebodies in the system (I will explain more about these when I post the complete system someday), it is rare that some radient energy does not reach the Zharre Belt. The various 'colors' of light mean that some of the plankton and diatoms might bloom under the influence of one of the suns more than another. Even in our world, there are various types of plant life which require different wavelenths, some absorbing the red and some the yellowish rays. 4. Due to the deeper oceans around the larger islands, there are some fish and squid which are only found here, while other species swim the various ribbons of water and the shallower water there. 5. The water tends to flow at varous rates of speed in the ribbons, some having a fast current, others seeming to have little or no current at all. Each ribbon has two sides and some species migrate to the darker side or the lighter side according to their natures. This also means that the side which is brighter lit tends to have active predation among species which are sight hunters. 6. The shallow nature of the ribbons means that there is very little seabed which does not get some light. therefore there are few spots which do not have an active source of vegetative material. 7. As to the source of the nutrients. This is a large ecosystem in a fantasy world. If I the DM say there is enough nutrients, who is going to argue? Alright enough?
