I generally believe that rules promote creativity, compare the poetry of World war I to that of Vietnam, for example. The WWI authors are followed the 'rigid' conventions of the period and produced truly astounding works which express well how the war impacted them. It's hard to imagine a more evocative work then 'Dulce et decorum est', for example. The Vietnam authors, however, writing in the post-T.S. Elliot free form style produced nothing of lasting value or, IMO, nothing even of current palatability. That said, since their are no entries, the rules will be relaxed. Going over the limit will be considered in judging the stories but will not disqualify the story. Please note, for those who have read my paused SJ story, that I am aware of my own stringent limitations as a writer! :) -- "...And nobody is to be killed at all, if it can be helped. Keep your tempers and hold your hands until the last possible moment!" "But if there many of these ruffians," said Merry, "it will certainly mean fighting. You won't rescue Lotho, or the Shire, just by being shocked and sad, my dear Frodo." Paul Westermeyer, westermeyer.3@???.edu Phd Candidate, History, Ohio State University
