Spelljammer Short Story Contest The Seeker's Council is sponsoring a short story contest in order to help generate new SJ fiction. The rules are simple: The story must be set within the Spelljamming universe, which must be a real part of the story. This may be achieved by having the story deal with spelljamming directly (a treasure hunt, or battle story, for example) or by being set fully within a Spelljammer community (such as the Rock of Bral). The story can also be no more then 10,000 words in length. Spelljammer stories already posted to the net or list may be submitted for the contest, provided they meet the word length criteria. We suggest you edit them again for grammar and spelling, but they may be submitted as is. The story should stay close to the most important basics of spelljamming, the Spheres and flow, and the SJ physics but again, we will leave this to the voters. To enter the contest just submit your story to the Spelljammer list, or the Seeker's Council, along with a note stating you are submitting the story to the contest. All entries will be placed in the fiction section of Beyond the Moons. The contest will last for six months, the deadline is June 30th, 2003. We will then have a 1 month judging period, so the winners will be announced in early August, 2003. The contest will be judged by the readers of the stories themselves, who will rate stories on a scale of 1 to 10. The story with the highest combined score wins the contest. The exact mechanics of how/when to vote will be announced to the Spelljammer community in June. The winner's story will be noted on beyond the Moons, and the winner will receive a wall plaque with their name and the title of their story stating they won the 1st Annual Spelljammer Story Contest. -- "We sleep safely in our beds, only because rough men stand guard in the night, ready to visit violence upon those who would do us harm."
