I do a couple of things.  First, removing or emplacing a helm is a job for a
shipyard (or the Arcane).  Attempting to pull the helm outside a shipyard has
a 70% chance of rendering the helm useless and a 20% chance of causing a
10d20 hp explosion.  Second, as a result, the market for used helms is poor,
so resale value is considerably less.
