Nope. Some kind of purple gem, none of them know exactly what it is yet. For
all I know, it could be some gem the GM made up. I don't think it's flawed,
they didn't mention anything about it being cracked or damaged.

<< Of course, the type of gem will have a direct effect on the value. Some
gems
have occult significance. A watermelon sized gem that can-say-be used to
ward off evil spirits might be very valuable in the hands of the right
people. If I were them, I might just donate it to a temple though-sounds
like it could garner some good favor for them. >>

Well there aren't exactly temples in the game world they are playing in.
They
just slayed them very large creature whom was guarding a treasure trove of
gems & such. Amongst the stuff was the large gem.

<< If it isn't cut, in some cases it will be worth more than if it is-the
cut
of a gem affects its price. If it's flawed it will be worth considerably
less (the reverse of what we have today because of lab-created gems); Larger
flaws means less money, so it would be best to cut smaller gems out of it.
 >>

Okay, makes sense in a way.

<< They should go to someone who's an expert at this rather than doing it
themselvses, as the skill of the jeweller will change the price. Of course,
a jeweller may not trust themselves with a gem of that size and obvious
value... A jeweller would also be able to help them appraise it. >>

I don't think they have tried that yet, but I'll tell them about it (they
are
a tad new at the adventureing thing).

Thanks for your help & information. :-D
