FR uses world specific gems so they have to describe them. For quick
descriptions (mainly color) the 1st Edition DMG was great. It also has
a list of possible magical properties of gems. Once you have a decent
dictionary or online source (there are several pages with pictures and
descriptions of gems that I've seen) all you need is a name to get them
described. It's the base values that the game sources need to provide.
