Why are HPs less than tonnage?  Is this a Hackmaster thing?

You might want to search your original email.  The captain is referred
to as xxx in the first paragraph.

This doesn't fit the description we have of radiants, who are so bright
their operators have to wear helms with continual darkness to prevent blindness.
