Hey guys,
Sorry been so quiet as of late. Been working on a few things, and
here's the first that I finished. I kinda wanted to do a radiant ship,
but I couldn't decide on what system (2e/3e) to use, so I said screw it
and went with Hackmaster...man, that was fun :) Anyways, I used the
deckplans made by Burt Zoellick (great job, btw:), found at:
http://www.darkwood.org/sj/ships/drydock/RadiantShip.html
Hriw-Galad
Elven Imperial Navy Radiant Ship
Tonnage: 25
Hull Points: 19
Crew: 20
Armor Rating: 8
Saves As: Ceramic
Power Type: Minor Helm
Armament: 3 Medium Ballistae (FP, FS, A)
Crew: 1 each
3 Medium Catapults (360)
Crew: 1 each
Cargo: 13 tons
Keel Length: 190'
Beam Length: 30'
The Hriw-Galad (translation: Radiance of Winter) is a
recent addition to the Elven Fleet. The Fleet is experimenting with
using the lighter Radiant Ships for picket and short ranged patrol duty.
The Hriw-Galad was built in the shipyards of Greela in Greyspace. It
served a three-year duty there, patrolling the world of Borka in search
of straggler ships from the Borka Maneuver. It has recently been
reassigned to Bralspace to help contain the scro threat there. Captain
xxx has been given orders not to directly engage scro ships. Instead,
he is to provide support to non-elven ships contracted by the Elven
Fleet to engage scro warships or perform other tasks.
The Fleet has equipped the Hriw-Galad with the following
magical items: 5 Mage Shots (3 shatter shots, 2 dust shots); 2 Scrolls
(Spells: 2 Create Portal, 2 Detect Magic, 1 Sleep); and a cask of Oil of
Fire Stilling. The Fleet does not currently have the resources to equip
the Hriw-Galad with more magical items. Captain Decapteno hopes that
after a battle or two, he will have a larger cache of magical items at
his disposal. Captain Decapteno also has 5,000 gp worth of coins and
gemstones in a lockbox in his quarters for the crew's monthly pay, port
fees, and to bribe gullible adventurers into doing the Fleet's dirty
work.
The officers of the Hriw-Galad are exclusively Grey
Elven, due in large part to the ship being part of the Ciriath-Sinda
(Gray Ship-Host), a small fleet of elven ships run by Grey Elves. The
Ciriath-Sinda was the brainchild of three Grey Elf Admirals from fifteen
centuries ago, and has managed to remain a minor political force in the
Elven Fleet since. All ships of the Ciriath-Sinda report to the Elven
Armada Elen-Sinda (Grey Star), which is currently somewhere in
Realmspace.
Hriw-Galad Description:
As a fairly new Radiant Ship, the Hriw-Galad glows
softly in the night sky. It has not yet suffered major battle damage,
and it retains a 'new ship' smell that many captains find appealing.
The crew has begun etching scenic carvings into the gunwales, but large
parts of the ship are free of such carvings. The furnishings are
surprisingly sparse, partially due to the haste the Hriw-Galad was put
into service.
Main Deck
1.. Ballista - each of these weapons are normal light ballista behind
retractable 'eye' view ports of cut stained glass. Normal: Unmanned.
Battle: 1 elf marine mans each weapon (hp 24, 25)
2.. Ballista Pit - This room houses two of the ship's light ballistas.
Along the forward wall is a rack with fifty javelin-sized bolts for the
ballistas. Along the back wall is a small bar with four barstools,
where crew can come to relax over a bottle of cheap feywine.
3.. Navigation/Chart Room - A small chart table, two stools, and a
cabinet of charts can be found in this room. Normal: Helkatari is
charting the Hriw-Galad's next course. Battle: uninhabited.
4.. Decapteno's Quarters - Decapteno has been in command of the Hriw-
Galad for only four years, and has not yet had time to thoroughly
decorate his quarters. He has a large, four-post bed, an armoire, a
wardrobe, and other luxurious apparel. He keeps four bottles of
expensive feywine (worth 100 gp each) in a locked cabinet.
5.. Armory - This small room has a Superior lock (-40% to pick lock
attempts); Captain Decapteno has the key. Inside is a collection of 20
longswords, 20 longbows, 200 sheaf arrows, 10 boarding pikes, 15 suits
of chain armor, 15 suits of leather armor, and 25 medium shields.
6.. Astaldorandir Quarters - A simple room with a bunk, wardrobe, a
writing desk, and two comfortable chairs. Astaldorandir's spellbook is
hidden under his pillow, and 500 gp is stashed in a sack under the
floorboards. Normal: Astaldorandir is here either asleep or studying
his spellbook. Battle: deserted.
7.. Head - Each privy has a simple lock to ensure privacy.
8.. Officers Quarters - The forward officer quarters has been
converted into the helmsroom, where the ship's minor helm is located. A
spellcaster (determine randomly) and a guard (hp 25) are here at all
times. The helmsroom is largely bare except for the helm, a chair for
the guard, and a card deck where the guard often plays solitaire. The
aft officer quarters is shared by Angithil and Helkatari. The two are
never in the quarters at the same time, as they don't particularly like
each other. The two have gone so far as to put down a curtain between
their halves of the room. Angithil's side has a bunk, a wardrobe filled
with clothing, a full-length mirror, and several shelves of trinkets
she's bought during her time in the Fleet. Helkatari's side has her
bunk, a simple wardrobe with a few stiff outfits, and two shelves of
incredibly boring books (mostly on navigation).
9.. Crew Quarters - All of the sailors and Ranugaladhad share this
room. There are ten bunks lined up along the walls, stacked two high.
Each crewman has a small trunk of clothes and other gear. The walls are
covered by elven pin-up girls (mostly Ranugaladhad's doing) that the men
have to hide on occasion during inspection. This room is usually
deserted.
10.. Helm Room - The Hriw -Galad's minor helm is located here It is
always guarded, and one of the spellcasters is here at any given time.
Normal: Two elf marine guards (hp 25, 21) and one spellcaster. Battle:
Two elf marine guards (hp 25, 21) and one spellcaster.
11.. Pantry - This room is filled with enough provisions to keep the
crew fed for a month. Additional provisions are stored in the cargo
hold. This room is almost always deserted.
12.. Galley - Meals are prepared here, but usually eaten elsewhere.
Normal: an elf is here preparing the next meal (hp 25). Battle:
deserted.
13.. Marine Quarters - Off-duty marines sleep in this room. There are
ten bunks, stacked two high each, pushed against the walls. Each marine
has their own chest where they keep personal wealth, extra clothes,
spare weapons, and other personal affairs. This room is usually
deserted.
14.. Cargo Hold - Any cargo the Hriw -Galad may be carrying is kept
here. In addition, three months provisions are kept here. This chamber
is almost always deserted.
15.. Aft Ballista - a normal light ballista behind a removable hatch.
Normal: unmanned. Battle: 1 elf marine mans this weapon (hp 27)
16.. Companionway - This hallway is the sole means of reaching any
room in the interior of the ship, and is constantly used.
Battle Deck
1.. Turreted Catapult - Normal light catapult. Normal: elf lookout
(hp 26). Battle: manned by elf marine (hp 21).
2.. Covered Hatch - Locked with a good lock (0% modifier to pick locks).
3.. Turreted Catapult - Normal light catapult. Normal: unmanned. Battle: manned by elf marine (hp 21).
