Results: The results of what occurs should very much be decided by PC
actions though the desires of the DM will play a part. A number of
possibilities are looked at below.
Natal Triumphant: However it came about, natal has gotten everything
he wanted. The kobolds are dead and their possessions are his (the PCs
can^Òt simply loot the kobolds legally though if they have a deal with
Natal he may arrange for them to receive some of the loot under the
table or even openly as a reward). When the slaves were freed natal
somehow came to be looked on as a hero, whether because he hired the
PCs to deal with the kobolds^Ò treachery or he sent the guards in to do
the job. He gets to keep everything he stole from the halflings and
gnomes and the now penniless little folk take a mixture of jobs for him
and joining the guard. In this scenario the town guard and the planar
church of Nirvana undoubtedly look extremely good as well so many are
happy to join each. From the original 31 gnomes and 130 halflings the
church gains 2 gnomish and 7 halfling acolytes and the guard gains 15
gnomish and 32 halfling warrior recruits along with another 5 gnomish
recruits looking to be illusionists (reduce all numbers equivalent to
the percentage of slaves that survived). In an irony of ironies, the
former slaves have become the backbone of the local government as well
as providing it enough power to really begin on its attempted
expansion. In this scenario Natal is almost guaranteed to confiscate
the Blackspear though if the price of their aid was arranging for the
PCs to have it he will arrange things so they can steal it (which also
conveniently saves him the worry of whether or not they^Òll be back to
blackmail him since they^Òll now be wanted as pirates in the Miel
domain). It is up to the DM to determine what the future holds as the
town tries to expand in this scenario. They now have the basis to do
so, which a suddenly flourishing agricultural base provided by the
decanter of endless water and the build up of loyal troops.
Kobolds Triumphant: In this case the kobolds have to save the town,
probably in the event of civil war. The demonstration of their might
means they are now definitely the dominant partners in the relationship
though Oppol is crafty enough to use this power only subtly. Oppol has
not forgotten the lair things all started at and as the population of
his tribe suddenly explodes beneath Miel^Òs surface he will make
preparations to establish another clan there. He^Òs waited a long time
for the Thunderspears to produce a sorcerer and with the population
explosion he^Òs likely to be able to form his tribe into several clans,
each with its own sorcerer. If this happens, the Blackspear tribe will
become a force to be reckoned with. Also in this scenario the town
rebuilds and sets out to do what it did before. There is now more
trust of the kobolds (and reliance on their might) and the damage done
will make the remaining folk all the more eager to expand their
military power and thus their security. The town will still have a
strong agricultural base and will try to attract new settlers to occupy
the empty farms and increase the farmed area of the asteroid.
Alliance Continues: This scenario is basically the situation
presented in detail above for the PCs to interact with. Depending on
events and PC actions the forces may both be weakened but they are
still allies and still have the same plans.
Total Reversal: In this scenario the kobolds are defeated and the
evil of the mayor and his allies comes back to haunt them. If the PCs
appear as the saviors of the slaves and heroes of the day the elves and
dwarves will back the freed slaves^Ò calls for a return of everything
they once possessed, reparations to be paid, and Natal^Òs head to be cut
off and stuck on a pike. Things will only reach the latter stage if
the planar church of Nirvana is no longer around or has been disgraced
also, otherwise the clergy will prevent this last but the others will
be forced on Natal. This will also put an almost complete end to the
town^Òs expansionism as they can^Òt afford the salaries of so many
guards. Only luck will allow them to continue successfully, though if
Natal is still in power (and thus the planar church of Nirvana has not
been disgraced) they will continue to try. In the event that the
planar church is disgraced and Natal executed by a lynch mob, there
will be no government in place for several days as the locals work
things out. Finally a council will be established to govern the town
with a permanent seat reserved each for the local dwarves, elves,
gnomes, halflings, and humans. Durri, Saul, Caramip, an unnamed
halfling matron, and Potter Holm (the half-elven smith) will
respectively fill each seat on the first council. The planar church of
Nirvana won^Òt be outlawed but it will lose all followers other than the
clergy and Juliet and all donations from others in town. Instead it
will be replaced as the primary local religion by Rillifane Rallathil
and the dwarves will invite all the craftsmen of any race to worship at
the new twin temples of Berronar and Moradin they plan to excavate.
All expansionist ideas will be dropped and slavery will be declared
permanently outlawed along with kobolds, orcs (including half-orcs and
scro), and goblinoids (unless a PC was one of these races). Regardless
of who^Òs in charge, the town won^Òt give up the decanter of endless
water.
