Sorry Leroy,
I've been off gaming after surgery & other commitments for the last couple
of weeks. I have emailed copies of your lastest work to the gaming group...
tonight will be our first play test as I have written in a large ship to
ship combat specifically to try you combat rules. After that, no doubt my
landlubber crew will be needing a new ship :)
My Initial impressions..excellent work as always... A worthy successor to
your 2e rules. I found that they slid easily into my published home rule
feats and skills which is always a bonus. I spotted a couple of errors
within excel which have already been pointed out to you. The "feel" was spot
on. The only thing I could suggest would be an inclusion of your helm rules
however I can see the obvious desire to keep those separate.
My only gripe, and this has been true of every system from the original
onwards, is the lack of a formula to cover rigging size.. ie, how much
actually "IS" topped out... 100sq foot of "sail" per 10 feet of hull length,
per ton of ships volume, or by the square of the root diameter of the
captains telescope? Not having ever been a sailor in anything than a
supercharged, fuel injected 454 chevy ski boat I have absolutely ZERO idea
of sail coverage needed to make something move.
More detail to follow.
Andrew.

PS... thanks for the effort and time... Someone who uses the system,
improves the system. Brings us back to the argument about why WOTC didn't
consult with select few again huh?

I'm not so much worried that its not going off well, I am just
surprised at the minimal response. I am not honestly bragging
here, but my previous system might very well have been the
mostly widely used home-brew rules system of any type for
Spelljammer. Given that, it is surprising that a new version
has recieved, so far, so little response. There could be lots
of reasons, and I am not too worried about it, but I am still
surprised.
