I would think that this would be how the creature 'feeds' and thus would
be an (Ex) Extraordinary ability.
You could however make it a (Su) Supernatural ability, this could allow
you to have Beholders living within the creature as the Beholder
antimagic ability negates the disintegration field allowing them to pass
without being 'eaten'.

I was looking over a conversion of 'meteorswarm' a critter from
spelljammer compendium #9 and was wondering if in 3E the ability to
completely destroy a creature when it enters into its maw should be (Ex)
or (Su)? The creatures mouth have many rolls of teeth which to grind
even a small asteroid into peebles. Or is the teeth just for looks and
in its maw a disintgration field? I be waiting for others opinions, well
at least today and the 4th of july.
