The trick is a well-designed and probably expensive arrow-head.
Think of a small plunger that opens a small box.

Making a _balanced_ arrow that is still accurate is a real trick,
and it may not be that reliable. It would need a direct hit or
the plunger might stick. I would say that a Dwarven made
Fire Trap arrow would be -2 to hit and detonate, anybody else
and you had better be shooting at a barn door.

A plunger triggers a grapple that causes the jaws of the harpoon
to snap shut against whatever it hits.

Is a mousetrap a 'door' for purposes of the Fire Trap and Wizard lock
spells? If so, then anything that would _normally_ trigger a mousetrap
could be use to trigger a Fire Trap. And you could have a mouse trap
that holds itself shut with the force of a Wizard Lock, and no, I do
not want to see the kind of vermin that require that sort of trap...

The harpoon-grapple would be more likely to bounce off than a
normal ballista bolt, but it would hold on much tighter.

So, make a rule that sufficiently potent materials allow the spell to
be cast on a larger batch, or if it is a temporary spell, the materials
allow the spell to last longer, or until discharged.

If you have a dark room suddenly illuminated by Continual light, there
is an effect. Similar, transiting from a well lit corridor into the
dimly lit helm room might give an advantage to the interior guard.
