I have been toying with 50 yard for some time and it seems to work, about the only disadvantage is that ships take up more than one hex. I have each ship in the center of the hex they travel so ships in adjacent hexes are 150 feet apart which allows for even Medium range spells to work at other than same hex and long range spells to work many hexes apart. With 2E being 500 yards to a hex and 1 minute per round of combat, with 3E having 6 seconds per round (1/10th of a minute) I simply divided 500 yards by 10 to get the value of 50 yards. If I switch to d20 spelljammer from the polyhedron then I will most likly go with 30 feet per square (or 30 feet hex if I so wish to change the chart slightly). This scale allows for even some short range spells cast by high level casters to have an effect beyound the same hex/square. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane Morrison" <Sable@??????-????.com> To: <SPELLJAMMER-L@??????.???????.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2002 3:44 PM Subject: Re: [SPELLJAMMER] Tactical Speed > An interesting idea, one that might make being a mage more useful other than as a power source. :) > > Yours truly, > Sable > > --- Paul Westermeyer <westermeyer.3@???.edu> wrote: > >I'll toss an idea into the shark pool for folks to shred:) What do > >you think of changing the size of hexes down to 100 yards from 500? > >While keeping SR as noted (SR 1 = 1 hex of tactical movement). Thus, > >spells would not be as completely useless beyond a hex and flying > >creatures like pegasai would become much more interesting:) > >-- > >"We sleep safely in our beds, only because rough men stand guard in > >the night, ready to visit violence upon those who would do us harm." > >H.G.
