100 cubic yard = 2700 cubic feet.

We're talking 3 dimensions... not two !!!!

So a medium ballista.... eating up 2 tons will be equal to 200 cubic
feet... or have a "volume dimension" of about 9 X 10 X 30 feet.
Yes these dimensions are redicilous. A medium ballista would indeed take
the volume of two flitters. But the whole has to be anchored tightly to
the deck. Extrapolating this would be to enhance the thickness of the
deck. Thinking to add 3 feet to the
surface area and the ballista would be about 1 deck high (10 feet, taken
for standard) the height of the total construction would be 13 feet.
200 cubic feet divided by 13 is 200 feet.... which would take the total
surface area of the Medium Ballista to 14 square feet. A large construct
but when you picture the size of the Ballista inside your living
room.... the dimensions would make sence : )

I may be running on low sleep here, gimme a minute..

if 100 square yards is one ton, then one ton is 900 square feet right?
cuz a square yard (1x1x1) is the same as 9 square feet (3x3x3; assuming
there are 3 feet per yard).

THEN, 9ftx5x5 goes into 900 4 times (225x4), assuming a height of 9ft by
a width and depth of 5ft.  9ft ceilings may be too high, not sure, but
it sounds good atm.

Someone else hasta know what I'm on about.
