Theoretically, those were some of the "official" solutions to the Athas
dilemma. "Official" as in, it's not necessary to use them in every game, and
you're free to resolve the situation any way you'd like. You *could* add
Athas to a Spelljammer game, or you *could* add Spelljammer to a Dark Sun
game.
The main difficulty is between the flavors and rules used in the two
settings; can Defilers and Preservers use helms? Could the residents of
Athas develop some sort of outlet for their psychic powers to power a ship?
et cetera ad nauseum.
Various interesting solutions have been proposed while I've been on the
list, but for the moment I'm a little tired and stressed from learning how
to drive in a car that's three sizes too small to contribute...
