Ah well, might as well toss my 2 coppers in.

I pretty much concur with much of what my fellow Council members have
said. I really don't have as good of 'real life's a killer' story as
they do; over the last year, I've had to get a job (which caused a good
6 months of insomina), which takes a good deal of my time and energy. I
have been getting back into the writing groove as of late, now that my
life has eased up a bit.

Now, onto the guidelines. I think that there's a bit of
misunderstanding as to the purpose of the guidelines. Basically, they
are there to serve 2 reasons, as I see it. 1) Keep the setting as
reconnizable as possible, and 2) heading off a game of 'one-ups-manship'
between various people. Nobody purely follows SJ rules or setting.
There are all kinds of variants, and everyone has their rule 'fixes'
from helms to gravity to ships to spheres. I don't think we go a month
without seeing someone propose some 'fix' to this rule or that rule. I
think that's the nature of the beast. However, we need to keep the
setting reconnizable to anyone coming into the game with just the first
box; if we ditched the rules and most of the setting and created a
home-brewed, essentually new game with funky ships, we'll have people
asking "what the hell? This isn't SJ!" And they'd probably be right.
Besides, outside of the contests, how many people honestly posts content
rather than rule fixes? Three? Four? Am I being generous?

I think we're a bit gunshy because we do have the possibility of
influencing the 'golden triangle' aka krynn, gray, & realmspace. That's
pretty much a big 'no-no' for us, and since that's like about 75% of the
provided setting, it's a real pain. That's part of why I put my stuff
in new spheres, where I can have more control.

I don't know. The guidelines can stay, they can go, I don't really
care either way. I don't think we're alone with our problems. I've
cruised around the other list serves once in a while, and it seems that
no matter the setting, there are those that are discontent with the way
things are handled. For SJ, i think it's even worst, because no one
agrees on even a basic rule system. Ah well, it's late and I've got
work tomorrow. Night everyone! :)
