Athas-Space

I think there's no real reason you can't spelljam around Athas.  If you
do, I think these points would make it more canon:

1. The sphere is closed.  This makes it so that non-defiler/preserver magic never becomes an issue.

2. Lifejammer helms are the only option.  Other helms require "standard"
magical energy, so they don't exist on Athas.

3. The other bodies in the sphere aren't any nicer than Athas.  They
seem nicer to Athasians who go there, because they're not all harsh
deserts.  What they are, however, are places you really don't want to
go, because of nasty monsters, disease, poisons in the atmosphere, or
whatever.  That way, you don't escape the nastiness, you just find a
different kind.

An alternate, but much less canon approach to the sphere itself is that
there is no sphere.  The system is located in a phlogiston-less part of
the flow.  In fact, it's so far away that if you load up the largest
possible ship with the most optimum supplies, everyone will be dead from
lack of heat, oxygen, food, water, or some other essential before
they're halfway to the nearest river of phlogiston.

Thanks to George Lavalle for giving me the inspiration to try to
canonize Athas-Space.  Not that he should be blamed if this blows up in
our faces.  I could have stayed quiet.
