I can see what you mean about how it's stated. I guess it was originally meant allow a navigator to attempt to plot his couse mor accurately and compensate for any planets being in the way. But as it is worded, it made me think about ships plotting course to planets in their path for the acceleration from being pulled closer to the planet.
