Summary: A small asteroidal farming community, run by halflings, labour by
various criminals. Exports are rare and exotic fruits and spices, and small
animals.

Run by the halfling family, Warrensfield is a home for the criminally
motivated. With deadly criminals from across the spheres isolated in it's
cavernous interior, and those guilty of petty crimes and trespasses working
the farms on it's surface, the penitentiary is actually an asteroid.
Commercial exports of fruits, vegetables, and even some delicate flowers and
garden plants (naturally, those producing large amounts of oxygen) is it's
largest, and most well-known source of income. Furthermore, it is granted
financial aid by the governments placing their unwanted population under the
halfling's, and also sells it's interiorly cultivated produce, and more
exotic plants, to wizard societies and thieves guilds across space.

Warrensfield is run by a halfling known as Grandpa Warden. His four sons,
Blinky, Wacky, Jester, and Fiddle also aid in the upkeep of the jail, while
their wives, Blossom, Bouncer, Serenity, and Muse, and children (whose names
are not listed, as there are many) alternate between watching prisoners,
planting new and tracking existing crops, and packing crates with exports.

The main guard popuace, which makes it's home in the most inner caves, is
made up of almost a thousand halflings, humans, and lizardmen, the latter of
which serve to keep prisoners in line simply at the threat of making them
dinner. The actual prisoner population is somewhere in the amount of ten
thousand, and the most elite grounds, the small palace Grandpa Warden made
his home, holds at least a hundred halflings, many of which are family. No
non-criminal on the asteroid, however, goes unpaid for their work, or is
given any soft treatment. Most of Grandpa Warden's servants are his
grandchildren, and his sons only hold their positions due to their
incredible experience and talents in their areas.

Some of the common exports, as briefly listed above, are wheat, rice,
barley, corn, sugar, and staple vegetables. The more rarer output contains
fruits such as bananas, paw-paws, coconuts, tomatoes, pears, apples, and
grapes. The very expensive, and rarely exported things include tobacco,
used en masse by the haflings, guards, and some select prisoners, various
spell components, such as mandrake, witches juice, and many other herbs,
halfling wines, brewed deep in the caverns made from the highest grade
grapes farmed, and finally, many small animals, such as parrots, rainbow
lorikeet's in particular, and small monkeys, which are typically trained as
ship's labour.

Finally, known to very few upon the asteroid, warships are made here.
"Lifers", those prisoners sent for incredibly heinous crimes bestowing a
perpetual sentence, are used in the construction of hammerships, squidships,
and even the occasional warwhale. The lifers are used because they are
never going to leave, thus likely the secret is kept well, and none of the
other prisoners care about their whereabouts, thus giving Grandpa Warden
cheap slave labour, which no governmental or other type of power can keep an
eye on and complain about. The ships made are always of the highest
quality, from the strongest wood imported for "wine barrels". Further, they
are fitted with state of the art weapons, and sold only to pirates.

Many pirates, in fact, enjoying the seedy underbelly feel of buying their
ships here, also purchase some of the lifers as slaves. This is rare, as
not many pirates do like savage killers, but some do.

Lastly, Grandpa Warden and his small cadre of mafia (as he likes to think
of those few within his secret enterprise) also offer the "removal" of
unwanted individuals from said pirates, at 10,000gp for a life sentence, or
2,500gp for a five year. To date, Grandpa Warden has only had 50 such
dealings in the 100 years he has run the prison, and has accidentally sold
two such lifers to pirates.

Any nation wishing to place criminals into warrensfield care must pay a
once off joining fee of 25,000gp, and an upkeep of 15,000gp per year.
Furthermore, they must wave any capital taxes upon warrensfield exports to
their government, something quite often overlooked as a small detail, but
which earns the jail quite a tidy sum on all the exotics it sells. Its
pirates ships sell for ten thousand gold over the normal value, not
including the cost of the extra weaponry. It's lumber purchased is at cost
price from a dwarven government, it actually makes a great deal of money
from this also.

The jail owns two tradesmen, converted to prison ships for "conveyance",
and has two hammerships, outfitted with more weapons than could be
imaginably fit, including bombards along each side enclosed in the hull. As
the jail is in wildspace it makes a show of using it's many bombards during
the occasional escape attempts, wherein anyone attempting to break someone
out is either blasted out of the sky, or brought down as permanent "guests"
also.
