The Ongoing adventures of my Spelljammer PBEM game. Comments, questions always welcome:) ----------- = Meanwhile, elsewhere... *********** = Later... Continued from part 1 IC: Meanwhile... Holland asks Raken and Allagan to accompany him again as he goes to his noon appointment with Barrachus. Allagan goes with him. Raken is enjoying the day, walking with a bit more spring in his step, sometimes muttering something about new spheres to discover and secrets to uncover. Leera joins them as they leave the ship. Staying on the main streets the group make their way to the temple. Holland says to Barrachus, "Good day. I have brought the hand. Thank you for agreeing to help me." Leera catches the priest's eye and notes "I saw the arm's previous owner use it in battle. It created some powerful magical effects.... be careful when attaching it." She pauses. "The arm's owner was an evil being... a hired killer. Can you be sure it won't have an effect on Holland, here?" Holland frowns and says, "I did not think of that." Barrachus brings the group to the Athenans quarters in the Pantheon. He introduces a buxom priestess with carefully coifed brown hair. "Antigone, this is the mage I spoke to you of." Antigone listens to Holland's tale, and Leera's concerns about the hand. "You are wise to be concerned. We shall have to examine this, it could take several days. And the operation will take some time as well, we shall have to consult with the Apollons, as they will have to do the surgery itself. May we hold onto this for a while?" Holland nods, "That would be fine. Please send word to the NIGHTWIND when you are ready for me." "Work of this sort is... demanding. It takes us away from our normal duties..." She trails off meaningfully. Holland replies, "I understand. I believe a... tithe... to the Temple is in order. What do you suppose a proper amount is?" "It will be a difficult operation, requiring the services of priests of both Apollo and Athena. The typical tithe in such a situation would be three thousand gold, but I'm sure you have not brought that much with you. And if we discover the hand is malevolent the operation will not be needed and the tithe far lower, perhaps a hundred." Holland blinks his eyes a few times and replies, "3,000 is indeed a lot more than I can muster. Unless we can come to some sort of other arrangement, I will have to apologize for wasting your time." "Well, leave the hand with us, unless you cannot afford the smaller tithe. If we discover it would work, perhaps an arrangement can be reached." He shrugs. "Tithes could be made in many, smaller amounts over time." Holland nods ands says, "I can afford the smaller tithe, so please examine the hand. We will leave further arrangements for if we know it will work." Leaving the temple Holland says to his companions, "I thought that there would be a wait." Looking down the street at the Mage's Guild Holland says, "Let's stop by the Guild again, I would like to check the board." Allagan says, "I am returning to the Temple. See you later." Holland replies, "Be careful when returning to the ship and thanks for the help with the Pantheon." Allagan says, "My pleasure. I hope things work out." At the Guild, Holland checks the board for any entries or any replies to his previous entry but sees nothing of interest. Holland says, "Well, I am going to return to the ship. What do you all have planned today?" "I intend to rest today," Raken responds. "I'll be aboard the NIGHTWIND all day." Holland nods his head and says, "I still have some studying to do in my spellbook." Holland, Raken, and Leera start back to the NIGHTWIND. Date/Time: 1:00 pm 16th day of the 7th Month, 5049 OC ----------------- Allagan returns to the Temple and says to Barrachus, "I apologize for my behavior yesterday. I am very ashamed. I was trying to impress my Captain. I don't know what I was thinking." "It is easy to get caught up in the affairs of the world, and indeed we must participate fully, to bring Zeus' will to light. But it is important to remember one's humility, especially when one's birth is so... special." Barrachus says. "You know I have raised you since you were a babe, and think nothing but the best of you. But you do have enemies here who would like you cast out as a heretic. We must not give them any ammunition!" Allagan says, "I understand, I will be more careful. I will not bring shame to the Father." Barrachus smiles, "You returned with no prodding from me. To recognize one's own errors is a sign of great wisdom! Think no more of it, save as a guide to the future. Now, tell me of the past. How was your first voyage among the stars?" Allagan tells Barrachus everything that has occurred to the COSS since he was last there to purchase healing potions. Barrachus seems pleased. "Excellent, excellent. I think perhaps you have chosen well in you companions, Allagan. I shall read the entrails this eve for you, and see what Zeus might reveal of your future." Allagan says, "That is very gracious of you Barrachus. Um," Allagan adds hesitantly, "Could I watch?" "Of course. Do you have durties on your ship, or can you spend the day?" Barrachus asks. Allagan says, "I have the day off. I was going to spend the day in prayer and helping the younger brothers, so yes I can spend the day." Allagan prays at the Zeus altar and helps with daily ministrations.
