later stuff, yep.  i always figured that the beholders were an
illithid creation (even in a magical world, i have trouble picturing
them "evolving", and i doubt anybody less cocky than the illithid
would create such a powerful menace).  and with the illithid penchant
for genetic engineering, they coudl either be the source of the
various beholder-kin, or have programmed the possibilities for them
into the original beholders.

am i the only one who remembers the mouth-sticks and other [silly]
'Realms expanded info on beholders (i believe it was pre-SJ, but i
could be mis-remembering)?  mouth-sticks were a complex rod (don't
remember if it explained who built them) with one or more manipulable
digits/tools on the end, and control rods running inside that ended
in control knobs/levers at the other end, so that a beholder could
hold it in its mouth and activate/use it with it's tongue.

Eyes tend to be rather large in Anime. This is because they contain
several gallons of water, which may be instantaneously released at high
pressure through large tear ducts. The actual volume of water contained
in the eyes is unknown, as there is no evidence to suggest that these
reservoirs are actually capable of running out. The reason water tends
to collect in the eyes is because Anime characters only have one large
sweat gland, which is located at the back of the head. When extremely
stressed, embarrassed, or worried, this sweat gland exudes a single but
very large drop of sebaceous fluid.
