Re: hardness and other ship things

If you have ever played GURPS they have this system in ARMOR. They have
DR=Damage Resistance, which works excatly like Hardness. And the have
PD=Passive defense which works like AC.

I'd be in favor of ditching AR almost entirely, in favor of Hardness.
Make all ships AR 10, with hit bonuses modified entirely by such things as
range, bearing, and relative speed.  Then use hardness to determine
whether or not the shot actually had any effect.

(Of course, I rather wish that 3E had done something similar with personal
armor, now that I've seen Hardness in action.)
