about intelligent insects... exoskeletons and extra legs are not the only differences between most animals and insects. Another big difference is the complete lack of any sort of heart or lungs. Due to the lack of these organs, insectoid life could never expand beyond the size we have on earth. Naturally, in a fantasy setting one is free to overlook these things, and I think the Thri-Kreen make an excellant and alien addition to any DnD campaign. I do think that there should only be one or two insectoid "exceptions" to the above rule.. but only one or two.
