Rl explanation? Bugs cant breathe once they get over 6 foot long and even
around that size most examples were fairly thin and narror (The old
dragonflies got that size).  Another one? Bugs rely on numbers more then
actual mass.  There are more insects in terms of sheer numbers and mass
then there are humans...doesnt mean we see intelligent hives of 6 foot
long ants running amok...

In any case...ships built specifically for the Thri Kreen and the Xyxchil
imply there are rather largish anthropod based empires out there.
