Except for a few rare special cases (such as Baneliches in Forgotton Realms) priests don't become liches. As far as the ego goes it's not absolutely mandatory, but it certainly is more likely than not. As an example of a lich without a particularly huge ego there's that fellow from Skull and Crossbows who didn't even realize that he had died, let alone that he had become a lich: he was far too forgetful and absorbed in his research to think of such trivial things. > Definitely! I would tend to think that if a lich was behind an invasion, the invasion itself would likely only be a small part of its plan. Perhaps the entire invasion is designed to allow the lich to get a single well-guarded book that he needs for his research, or perhaps the invasion is just to distract people from his true goal. > BTW: Since I joined the list, I'm finding it so much more fun to create > new ways to mess with the minds of the characters in my own campaign... If you can't mess with their minds, what's the point? ;-) -- The most merciful thing in all the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.
