I know most of you grumble when the Dogs of ill-written War are mentioned,
but they were just so fun in our campaigns, I'd miss them terribly. So,
Adam, you mean something along the lines of "Long, long ago, in a sphere
far, far away.. a bunch of werewolves & their maeder master built a fleet
and got jiggy"?  Perhaps they might filter in as you said, appearing as the
giff do, mixed into ragtag mercenary forces [tho' far less rare even even
than the giff], telling tales of a vast distant empire, or one that fell
apart after a rebel alliance formed to fight them....
