Hi, >conflict? Someting of this sort... I guess the poor Vodoni are gonna be >written out, though, or at least it seems so to me. Drat. Regarding the Vodoni, I have a few questions. Why are they so disliked? Why couldn't they be included? Remember, I'm relatively new to the list, so I've missed past discussions on this. I think I saw a few posts in the archives about how powerful they were made, that having a fleet of werewolves wasn't enough for them so they were creating new super-werewolves, etc. Is that the basis of the problem, or is it more to it than that? If the problem is only the over-the-top power of the Vodoni crew/marines, 3e may provide the fix for that. Has anyone looked at the new templates in the back of the Monster Manual? The werewolf template just adds +2 Str, +4 Dex, +4 Con, and only adds 2 HD. While it provides a decent bite attack (1d6+str), it's fists/claws are now 1d3 subdual attacks, not even regular damage. They do have the damage reduction against non-silver weapons, but that can be overcome in the 3e rules (it just subtracts the first 15 hit points from non-silver/non-magic weapons, but even normal fire bypasses it and can hurt them) so that ship-scale weapons can still kill them. No getting hit by a catapult stone and having it bounce/instant-heal (or whatever special effect you used for 2e immunity to non-magical weapons). And greek fire projectors would toast them quite nicely. :) So if the "typical" marine is a 1st or 2nd level Warrior, then a typical werewolf marine of the Vodoni would be 3-4 HD and not particularly more powerful than any other 3-4 HD monster. Similarly, the "super-werewolves" (whatever they are called) would just be 4-6th level fighters turned into werewolves, so 6-8 HD, etc. That makes them less powerful than some of the other SJ beasties, like mind flayers and beholders. So, does the 3e rules answer the munchkin problems posed by the Vodoni? And if so, does it make them a playable menace or are there other reasons why they should not be used? Cheers, Lindharin
