Like you I had some MAJOR reservations about third edition, but I at least gave it a chance. I read the PHB when it came out, then the DMG, and then sat back and gestated on 3E. I've been playing AD&D longer than I care to admit, even to myself. I think this edition has just about the same amount of change as 1E to 2E, except that they made it more systematic. In doing so, they introduced a lot of "openness". Now I'm not here to "convert" you to the new religion, but for you to have such a strong opinion leads me to believe that you didn't approach 3E with open arms(or mind). Just because you can have a paladin/ranger/mage/cleric/thief/bard certainly does not mean you would want to, it would be one of the weakest 6th level characters in the campaign. Proficiencies have been around since 1E, remember the Survival Guides. The new skills and feats system is a cleaned up version of that, although in my opinion - still not quite there. The prestige classes....ever see a 1E bard ? Look, not everything about 3E is making me smile, but D&D is an evolutionary game. When there was just one edition, Dragon magazine would have new official rules every month, Unearthed Arcana was just a reprint. I believe most people will go to 3E, and in turn so will this list. Not because it is a better system, but because it is a system that lends itself to "systematic modification". And since we all like to change the rules to our liking, 3E will be the path of least resistance. Do yourself a favor, at least read 3E, if anything I'm sure you will find some stuff in there to take back to your 2E campaign(like Domains for instance). Give peace a chance...OR I'LL RUN YOU THROUGH !!!!!!!! > Not for the list, perhaps, but there is for Spelljammer. Spelljammer is a > setting designed for the 2nd edition AD&D game. I've already left one list because of "third edition". I don't > particularly want to leave this one, but all discussions > currently seem to be > focused on it.
