Cooperation with another race is possible, but in my
mind that leaves them as a "subject" race rather than
as a power in their own right. Of course, that does
fit in rather well with existing SJ canon, so I might
just go with it myself. I'll have to mull it over for
a while.

The "mad wizard creation" is trite, if over-used. It
may be that they were, but it should be far from
common knowledge. In my own campaign the rise and
fall of interstellar nations has happened so many
times that the knowledge of the origins and homeworlds
of most species have been lost to the mists of time,
and so I don't have to worry about how the Giff came
to be (yet.)
