Crusade was cancelled in the middle of its first season (after 13 episodes).

According to SciFiWire, "The two-hour film[, Witchblade,] is being
considered as a pilot for a potential series, depending on how the telefilm
does."

What does Witchblade have to do with Crusade?  Here's an excerpt from the
answer I wrote to Static:

"TNT advertised that Witchblade and Crusade would premiere in the same week.
  Although Crusade was ready to go with 13 episodes, Witchblade was nowhere
near ready for presentation.  So, TNT delayed Crusade's premiere to wait for
Witchblade.

Time went by, and nothing was heard from Witchblade's camp.  So, TNT decided
to scrap their original plans and present what they had:  13 episodes of
Crusade that were shown as a special, limited series instead of the first
segment of a 5-year story arc."
