The Light Gems relayed the energy from the rooms to the Queen's Eyes, I
think. I'll have to re-read the adventure, but I think one had to destroy
either the gem or the eye to keep the Ravager from using that power.
The black room was a reflection of the Disintegrate eye. There is very
little that can be accomplished there. However, there is a major difference
between this room and the one made of obsidian. Obsidian is stone; the walls
in the other room were polished, reflective, and very sharp. If I recall,
landing in that room would have been self-destructive too. The Disintegrate
room would be flat, empty black.
Having the PCs be instantly disintegrated in the black room is stupid.
Doubly so to reverse it later. I haven't started DMing yet, but my approach
would be; PCs try to land on the wall. But wait, A ship is a very large
object. Why should it be disintegrated instantly? I'll give them a few
rounds to notice tht parts of the ship that touch the wall cease to exist.
Possibly, I might have one of the ropes in the rigging fly out and dissolve.
If they continue on, I'll give them a roar like thunder and a rush of air to
fill the void where that part of the ship was. They get 1d6 hull points a
round, and they'll be backing up off that deathtrap. You have to warn 'em,
you know?
