And to muddy the waters even further...

If I have an aquatic race (or amphibian that has the ability to breathe
water in whatever way) and they use a ship that has a water envelope
rather than an air one, is this possible?  If so (even if using a
different type of helm) how long does their air supply last since they
actually has a lesser volume of air (as it's suspended in the water)?
