see this is what i'm talking about. I got this impresion from the rules. if a mage is on the helm and the ship is powered up, how can a ship replenish it's air envelope in flight. or even still on a air world where there is no place to land. powering down in a air world or earth world could be a dangerous proposition at best. so how could it be done?there would have to be a clear point at which the gravity of the ship establishes it self. is it done when the ship is powered up or rather warmmed up for take of. i believe this a ten minute process. or is it done upon escaping the atmosphere. i seem to remember the analogy of a person climbing a mountain and taking along a atmosphere if you got high enough. I think this is going to become a arbitrary question in the end. I don't seem to recall any spesific mention on any of this just the implications. it is mentioned that ships can replenish on air worlds. from the way it was described just entering the atmosphere of a planet would cause the air to replenish on a ship. but if this was the case how does the examples in the novels, of there are two apperantly( the one i mentioned and the one mentioned below), occur. does the helmsman have control as to weather the air envelope mix or not. maybe the air envelope and the gravity are independent of each other when it comes to this particular matter. IIRC double deck ships cannot enter an atmosphere for they would lose the bi-level gravity as soon as they did. perhaps during warm up an atmosphere is created but the gravity is not present until it leaves the atmosphere. as the helm is powered up and the helm spreads the magical energy all over the ship a sort of phanton gravity plane comes into being. the gravity plane never really disappears as it enters the gravity of a larger body it is only negated. to a certain point. as gravity exerts less of a grip on the ship the gravity plane ot the ship begins to emerge. and as a ship is powered up the air envelope extends as far as the phantom gravity. just a though, any one has more examples that might clear this up. ----- Keep Your Cloaks Up! ----- Original Message ----- > Something to note in regard to ship atnospheres and gravity and such > is that in "The Radient Dragon", when the elven ship landed on > Armistice to be repaired, they kept a mage on the helm to maintain > ship atmosphere and gravity.
