Subject: Re: Ship atmospheres and canon material
now that the council is formed and there are various thing to do i will ad
to their already complex job. There were many people who creid death to
canon material because of inconsistesies but few people really pointed out
any inconsistensies that weren't part of the nature on the material. Bral
was meant to be placed in any place the DM wanted or needed it. he didn't
have to create a whole asteroid city he had one ready made. the same went
for practical planetology. I however found something that is really not
blatantly contradicting but more of a blur on the rules.

air envelopes and gravity. when a ship enters another atmosphere at what
point do the atmospheres mix. and how much control does the helmsman have
over this process. specifically i remember references on this list in the
rules and in the novels.

here is what i am getting at. i always infered that the atmosphere was lost
at the point when gravity planes intercepted of contact was made with a
larger body. there was a scene in the second novel IIRC when teldin's ship
landed on toril and a scene was described. it went something like this. as
the ship landed i think teldin felt the ocean mist and the wind as the air
envelope dissipated. this to confirmed to me that on a planet a ship lost
it's atmosphere as it made contac with the surface of the planet. i remember
a reference on shereing attacks as well. IIRC the attack went that a ship
would make a sheering run against a smaller ship and as it was passing it
would purposely intersect the gravity plane of the ship, again gravity
contact. know if the above examples are to be correct how can aship
replenish it's supply on a air world.

The helmsman would have to have some control over the air envelope and by
direct corelation the gravity plane. or rather not control but more like
influence. i can see a ship with a depleted air envelope making a dive into
an air world or for that matter an earth world with breathable atmosphere
and dampening the gravity plane. all crew member grabbing ahold of somthing
as the captain called for the lessening of the gravity. and crew member
suddenly felt the ship tilt forward.( though the ship has maintained the
same angle of decent, but the planet begins to assert it's grip over the
ship as the mage wills the gravity to lessen.) large bodies gain a gravity
plane in the absence of a larger gravity.

know if this is the case at what point does the gravity plane begin to
dissipate as the ship enters and exits a large gravity plane. I don't mean
this to be a a scientific explanation of gravity as some members are
disposed to make it. i just mean it to clarify something that would only
enhance gameplay. I think this would be a really good article and am looking
for insight from other list members so i can write it up and post it to the
list.

Didn't mean to make this a long post
