Reposted. The rules are also on the site listed below. >>>>>Arcane Space Division Ship Design Contest<<<<< http://www.users.uswest.net/~malacoda/TarkasBrainLabIV.html To enter the contest simply design one or more ships using the ship construction system found on the Arcane Space Division. All entries will be judged, and a winner picked. Entries will be posted to the Arcane Space Division. The contest deadline is May 26th. The winner will be announced June 2nd. The winner of the contest can choose from one of the three items below for his prize... 1. A year subscription to Dragon 2. A two year subscription to Dungeon 3. Thirty bucks. The Rules... ------------------------- 1. All ships need to be created using the ship construction system found on the Arcane Space Division, either the RTF or HTML version (they're the same thing). 2. The system must be followed as closely as possible. Minor variations are allowed to accommodate certain concepts. Such variations should have notes indicating the changes and why. 3. All steps of the system (other than optional steps) must be included. This includes internal space. Note that specific weapons are not really a step in the process, but in most cases at least some suggestions are a good idea. 4. All entries should use the entry template found below. 5. Ships that are nothing but a collection of stats are unlikely to win. Additional text detailing it's typical use, variations, the primary builders and users, possible crews, and so on, should be part of it. Both generic ship types and specific custom ships are acceptable, as long as they are original designs (e.g. not simply a modified Squidship). 6. Entries are judged on creativity and usability. Detail is a part of usability. 7. Pictures and deckplans will add points, but not so much that only ships with them have a chance of winning. A good ship without either still has an excellent chance of winning. Any pictures and deckplans should be mailed to me along with the entry. Most image formats should be fine, including JPG, GIF, TIF, EPS, CC2 or Campaign Mapper. Larger images preferred (it's better to reduce than enlarge). 8. All entries should be mailed directly to me (malacoda@??????.net), not the list. Entries posted to the list will be ignored. Please place [Ship Contest] in the subject line. 9. Multiple entries are perfectly acceptable, and encouraged. 10. Ships that have been published elsewhere, including other sites, are not allowed. This does not include ships posted to the mailing list or sent to me previously, unless they are also on a site. 11. All ships should be built assuming the standard D&D level of technology (including gnomish technology), and powered by standard helms (or some other pre-existing power source, such as furnaces), or similar devices (e.g. tactical helms, psi-helms, and so on), or the Alternate Helm System on my site (not that many are likely to use that). No funky home-brew power sources. Capital ships are OK, but larger than 200 or so starts to reduce the usability. Additional Notes ------------------------- 1. By entering a ship in the contest the designer grants me the right to place the ship and any accompanying text, pictures and deckplans on my site for an indefinite amount of time. 2. I reserve the right to edit all entries for clarity, to add additional notes, remove text or omit images. 3. I reserve the right to declare the contest void for any reason. (Don't worry folks, that one is just to cover my arse for unforeseen circumstances, such as losing my job, getting put into the hospital, and so on.) 4. I reserve the right to declare the contest void should I receive less than six entries. 5. I will work with people outside the US to get them their prize, as long as the additional cost is not considerable. This means the year subscription to Dragon is unavailable, and the two year to Dungeon would likely be dropped to one year. The thirty dollars would be mailed in US funds, but I don't think there would be a problem sending it just about anywhere. 6. The prize is to be awarded within one month of declaration of the winner. 7. If someone has a subscription to one of the magazines above and would like to use the prize as an extension, I am sure that can be arranged. 8. If you have any questions at all about the ship construction system, feel free to ask. 9. If you have any questions at all about the contest, the prizes, the rules or additional notes, feel free to ask. >>>>>Design Template<<<<< Design: Tonnage: Frame: Hull: Hull Points: Plating: Armour Rating: Ram: Enclosure/Deck: Rigging: Maneuverability: Landing Capabilities: Minimum Crew: Air Capacity: Weapons: Internal Facilities:
