As we were discussing the offical website, I had a few questions I decided
to ask straight from the horses mouth. Heres the email I sent WotC, and
the reply I recieved, I also recieved an attachment, I'll copy and paste
the text in another email.
My email
Hello,
I was looking through WoTC website and on the links to the offical fan
webpages I saw this:
New Game Material! Each of the official world homepages will be developing
new canon game materials for use in your campaign
I am currently a member of the spelljammer discussion list, and this matter
has recently come up for dicussion on the list. I was hoping that WoTC has
developed a guideline towards creating new cannon material, and if I could
get a copy of said guideline. As well will WoTC be providing any assitance
with reagards to brand management, and allowing the offical fan websites to
release out of print products in electronic form. Also with regards to the
new third edition of AD&D upcoming later this year, will each offical fan
website be responsible for posting conversions to 3 editions rules, and if
there are any guidelines at this time could I get a copy of them as well.
Thankyou for time in answering my questions,
David Hart

Greetings!
I'm afraid I don't have written guidelines to give you right now concerning
the official website projects. I've attached the agreement for you to review
so you can see what kinds of things we expect the official websites to do.
In short, the official websites are allowed to create new materials that are
true to what the campaign setting was before it was discontinued. They can't
kill off major NPCs or rewrite the world to fit their personal images.
Wizards of the Coast is currently looking at our options regarding releasing
older materials over the website. Once we have a solid plan in place, we'll
let everyone know. I expect that we'll be selling the older products as
downloads, but I'm not sure when that will happen.
Each of the fansites are looking toward the release of 3rd Edition and
making plans to update the settings with the new rules. Again, each site
just needs to update the world in the spirit of the original. I review all
the major changes.
Good Gaming!

Well it looks like if WotC may end up releasing its material on the web.
Course not for free, but hey just having a chance to get at it is good
enough :>
Cheers, David
