I would have to say it would be a factor but not in hull points. Ship saving
throws would be the best place to start, I am no sure since i have not re
read the rules in quite some time, but i believe in the critical hit chart,
there was a critical hit that further damaged a ship

Though i'm sure opinions vary on this, in my mind hull points were really a
function of the size of the ship not what it was made of. though i might have
just interpreted it that way.

a old ship would be more prone to critical hits. reapirs would be more costly
and less effective. also if you are going to introduce age rules you might
introduce clearer maintenance rules. as you mentioned a ship that has all
space barnicles removed on a regular basis is going to be more sturdier.

this is just my opinion
