Subject: Re: Corillians
Pardon if the name is ripped off from anywhere, i thought of it and it
seemed to fit for some reasno, but im sure ive heard something the
same/similar elsewhere. Still, this is fantasy space, and i dont think its
from there, so who cares ;)

A new breed of sage for those of you who liked the idea of something other
than a human/elven old guy knowing a lot (ie fans of the Fal).

enjoy

NOTE in a sense i wouldnt mind these being considered entries for the SJ
creature challegne AND the business thing, because they trade in information
(regardless of how frivolous some may find it) and are natives to wild
space.

Description: Corillians are small balls of a pure white radiance. They
appear to be made of a fleshlike substance. From their small, totally
symetrical, spherical bodies, sprout 16 twenty foot long tentacles. They
move around the being in a slow, gentle movement, almost beautiful to look
at. The tentacles, and the body of the being glow with a light, soft white
radiance, instilling a sense of peace in any looking upon it of good or
neutral alignment.

When they speak, they speak with magical, musical, slightly high pitched
voices. They do not have any external (or internal) organs as such, but
instead seem to create the sound out of thing air (using magic). They glow
a shade brighter while "speaking", or using any sort of magical abilities.

They float constantly, but usually have at least half of their tentacles
resting on various objects, all around them. A Corillian moving through a
doorway, for instance, floats through, while its tentacles may pull along
the sides of the frame and push along the floor and roof. A Corillians
movement seems like a floating object in water, while its tentacles seem to
be its "feelers" so to speak.

Combat: Corillians do not enter combat, regardless of need or nature. They
have no way to attack, excepting a charm person, at touch, for when they are
attacked. This charm person is cast at 9th level of ability. Corillians
may also go invisible, as per the improved invisibility spell, at any time.
This is a natural ability, taking a round to engage. It may be used an
unlimited number of times per day, with an unlimited duration.

Charmed creatures act neutral good while under the Corillians influence,
regardless of actual alignment.

A Corillian's mind cannot be read, regardless of the level of mage casting
the spell. They are simply so alien, and full of magical defenses, that
little short of a demi-god can breach their minsd, and even then they are
likely to find nothing useful. Corillians freqeently think in pictures, or
poems, and even sometimes in patterns of white light.

Habitat/Society: Corillians are sages, philosophers, and poets. They move
with a gentle grace, and are increible, beautiful creatures to gaze upon.
They are welcome at most ports that their species is known of, and are soon
made to feel at home at new ports. They are collectors of magical, and
ancient knowledge, sages of the spheres.

Corillians do not charge standardly for their knowledge, but rather ask for
something appropriate from their benefactor. I.e. a Corillian may ask for a
piece of poetry, a copy of a personal journal, or a story of something
important.

Corillians speak to each other by means of rapidly pulsating the light that
emits from their bodies. While it may enduce epileptic fits in some, it is
still a beautiful sight to be seen.

Corillians charm evil opponents who attack them, keeping them charmed
permanently. Those of a neutral or good alignment that unknowingly attack
them is also charmed, but released as soon as possible, where it is
explained to them what a Corillian is, and what they exist for. Corillians
who charm evil opponents use their wealth etc to purchase ships, so they may
travel the universe. This is how they are most commonly encountered.

Those Corillians who do not "own" their own ships travel aboard
good-aligned ships of sages/bards or similar people. They can travel
through space at tactical speeds when they wish to, at an SR of 1.

For some reason, Corillians are never seen on anything larger than a small
asteroid/starbase.

Ecology: Corillians do not eat, and do not sleep. They exist for several
hundred years, and are netiher male nor female. Their method is
reproduction is unknown, and it seems their numbers are dwindling and so it
is assumed they cannot reproduce. In truth, Corillians can mate, but simlpy
do not. The few sages that know this do not ask why, it is rather to
personal.

Corillians bleed a white, ooze-like substance, which can be used in various
magical creations. It is usually a component only used by evil mages. When
slain, a Corillians body withers up like an old leather bag, and this ooze
slowly leaks from ist body. It evaporates within 15 minutes if not properly
contained.

The Rae Sar: A Corillian sometimes links its mind with that of another
being, to best communicate an idea. The Corillian approaches the being, and
touches their face with several, or sometimes all, tentacles. This is one
of the few tmies a Corillian will float without using its tentacles to feel
around, focusing all its attention on the being in front of it. This
ability the Corillians call the Rae Sar, and they only use it on those truly
good of ehart, and who need the knowledge quickly, and precisely. A Rae
Sar, for instance, may be used to show a man who has been travelling the
universe looking for a cure for his son's disease, whereas a thief trying to
find a buried pile of treasure has no chance.

Knowledge: A Typical Corillian is 35% likely to know of a something
specific within a given subject, When asked a question, sometimes a
Corillian will spend a few rounds sorting through its mind, not only to
accumulate all the important information, but to change it into words, or
something else suitable for the person receiving the knowledge.

Corillians do not know spells, be it mage or priest, or psionic powers.
They may know of places to go to, or people that ask, but do not trade in
such information themselves. They are far more interested in folklore, art,
literature, mythology, and such things. Corillians are revered by many
sages for their knowledge, and treated with great respect. For a Corillian
to ask anyone a question, without being asked one itself, is a great honour,
and symbol of the Corillians respect for that persons knowledge.
