Would you believe I honestly thought about that years ago?:) I agree
that SJ would make a pretty cool cartoon, but it'd also make a really
decent movie, too. Special effects have come a long way in the last ten
years (plot and acting aside, the corny special effects of shows like
Hercules, Xena, Sinbad, etc are pretty good for fairly low-budget
shows:).
However, Hasbro seems to have a "hands-off" approach to dnd in general
and doesn't seem to have any such merchandising tie-ins in the works
right now. That might change later, but it would probably alienate a
*LOT* of players simply because then they'd be making dnd the next
pokemon. I certainly wouldn't want to be in Hasbro's mail room if that
happened....
Anyways, I do think SJ could traslate into a cartoon, but probably not
well. The PG thing would kinda kill it (how would you get illithids or
neogi into a kid's show?). Worst, cartoons have been moving away from
drawn style to computer generated characters. Good for robots & aliens,
absolutely horrible on humans. Personally, I think an Anime-style
cartoon would do SJ a much better service than an american-made one.
Anyways, just my 2 coppers:)
