In response to questions of technology, i had a theory (because some evil doods on one of my worlds had very enhanced tech) that certain races would "disrupt" technical things by their mere prescence. ie, perhaps the lil aura around an elf that bestows 90% resistance to sleep and charm spells affects circuitry, or perhaps for some strange reason magic resistance causes smoke powder to explode as soon as it touches it.. or comes within a certain distance. And in any case, you wouldnt have "everyone" using it. Think about how much moeny the IEN would hafta go through to refit all its ships/soldiers/outposts etc with new armaments. mind you in retrospect if they didnt and the scro had a lot of cool tech theyd prolly loose a battle prety efficiently. Though.. remember.. a gun technically uses a non-magical missile.. now correct me if im wrong but isnt protection from normal missiles a 3rd level spell? perhaps ships could have a larger version placed on them (sounds vaguely like shields htrm..) to prevent this happening?? but magic always rules supreme, no matter what :) (says he who is playing an elven high mage atm) but... if u really want tech stuff.. and to mix fantasy with it.. perhaps u should be looking at Alternity (look at tsr's site for the fastplay rules or go buy the PH its great) not spelljammer?? if you start to bring tech in it brings with it a certain sense of logic and physics... spelljammer, as im sure we all agree, throws these two concepts out da window pretty much :).
