I just picked up the silver anniversary adventure Against the Giants, and read over choice parts of it. I have some observations/ideas I'd like to share with the list:) First off, the adventure is 96 pages, and has a full reprint of G1-3 in the first 42 pages of it. It is a complete reprint with only minor changes (updated the creatures to 2nd edition mostly) in text to accomindate 2nd e. Could raise problems in relative balance, as the giants have twice the hit points as before and are all 6' taller, making their quarters much tighter. The second half of the book is more of a campaign expansion rather than an adventure. It details out 2 dozen or so settlements in Geoff that have been overrun by giants. The "adventure" is designed to allow for almost any level of game play, so you could easily start the adventure at 1st level or 15th level, it doesn't matter. Very descriptive of the land of Geoff and hints at many minor locations not on the map (villages and such) for the DM to detail himself. What struck me the most was how easily the adventure could be exported to other settings; I'll leave spoiler space below because I'm going to discuss part of the plot involved: Should be enough:) The adventure revolves around a clan of renegade, foreign cloud giants who manage to get the other giants of the mountains to invade Geoff and Sterich. Fortunately, the pure-GH text is actually minimal, allowing easy export. The adventure could be placed in the Realms, possibly in the Impiltur/Damara area. It seems that it could be placed in Birthright, but would probably require a great deal of changes in races and monsters. For spelljammer, the "Lost Lands" could actually be a small moon with 3 or 4 small kindoms seperated by a large mountain range; the giants hail from a nearby gas world and used their floating islands as spelljammers to arrive at the moon. A few years later, they cause the giants to invade, and now the PCs must fight back to reclaim the land lost to the monsters. For this scenario, I suggest one of the moons of Zivilyn, an unnamed moon of Edill, or even Selune in Realmspace. Interestingly, the world of Chaos (Twilitespace) is almost perfect for this:) The cloud giants could be renegade firbolg who target one of the moons to become their new homeworld, and now the war is on to save that world from total defeat. -- Night Druid
