Just putting my two-cents worth in (I might get a penny's change,
though). The only changes I would make to the Spelljammer setup as far as
cosmology goes would be as follows: I would make some sort of different rule
concerning "alternate" primes.
The current canon explanation is that every so-called "alternate" prime
is simply in the same universe, but just a different crystal sphere. So,
does this mean that a group of adventurers from Realmspace could potentially
encounter other Realmspaces out there? I loved the design system in
High-Level Campaigns, but the idea that all of these variations on the same
world are all in the same universe strikes me as kind of, well, wrong. I
feel like there should actually be other timelines, thus providing another
dimension (no pun intended) to an adventuring group's travel possibilities.
I think that the idea of variations on a single world belongs more to the
realm of chronomancy and time-travel than to spelljamming.
Besides, (for those of you who read the entire Cloakmaster Cycle) the new
world that Teldin and the Spelljammer flew into at the end of the series does
not strike me as being within a crystal sphere. I cannot remember the exact
text, but it seemed to hint at a universe that was designed more like our
own. I love both the Planescape and Spelljammer settings, but I think it is
important to leave room for unknown dimensions and variations "somewhere out
there, beyond the known worlds/planes/whatever". Again, just opinion. Back
to the list . . .

                                                ---Nate
