Not so much because a helm isn't powerful enough to theoretically power an artifurnace (heck it might be, it might not be), but because the artifact in an artifurnace has to be active for the artifurnace to draw power from it right? This would mean that there would be two active helms on one ship (the minor helm, and the arifurnace), and this creates all kinds of problems (including IMC big nasty explosions if the dice cooperate ;-). > Other than that mages can always use the spells create minor helm and > create major helm (though we don't know if permanency works with these > spells) I would rule that permanency would work with these spells, but the helm itself would have to be specially prepared with enchant an item, and would have to have the right materials (just like creating any other magical item). I make these 'lesser' permanent helms less able to withstand damage IMC (in fact I say that the energies involve actually mean that you use the basic saving throws of the material it's made out of...with a -2 penalty), and then there's the fact that unless the spellcaster is of a high level he probably won't be able to create a helm which can power, say, a 100 ton ship. -- so sleep tonight in idle dreams the pain will drown your silent screams and you want it all
