The original boxed set conflicts on this. There is a section which states
that very high-level wizards can create helms.

AFAIK, there are no official processes. If you want, we could make one up
for you--either a bunch of individual ones, or even an "Official SJ-list
method for help creation." We could even try to work out the method the
Arcane use for producing helms.

My guess: it takes a high-level Enchant an Item. Perhaps 8th level, with
that near-artifact invulnerability of a helm. Body parts of animals which
warp space, either Celestial Dragons, other spelljamming creatures, or
perhaps even Gravs or other gravitic creatures. (Actually, the Gravs may
not actually be manipulating gravity directly, despite the name; could be
simply a levitation.) The kiss of a Stellar Dragon wouldn't hurt, nor a
strand of hair plucked from a living Ki-rin. Perhaps a bit of Gammaroid
shell to ensure toughness. And something that "eats" magic, perhaps a
Dweomerborn or a... what's it called? Looks like an anteater, IIRC, in the
MM.

And, IMC, you'd add ESP spells, Serrel's Mindprobe, and a handful of
metamagic spells as well. Helms IMG do a lot more than people think...

Hemlock
