Thank you all! >I am not sure why. I believe it has something to do with a bad e-mail >address on the list. Maybe somebody shut down their e-mail account and >forgot to unsubscribe to the list. Sounds good to me. While I had plenty of postings from the list, and mine came back, the Ftrak messages put doubts in my mind that all was well. Meanwhile, here are some of the spells that I used to foil the investigations of my Pzalian Royal Investigator PCs: Physical Exchange (Apportation) if you do not use the school of Apportation then it is Alteration Level: 7th Range: Sight Duration: Instantaneous Area of Effect: Caster and one other creature Components: V Casting Time: 1 Saving Throw: Neg. This spell switches the locations of the caster and another creature, along with items worn, held or otherwise in the immediate possession of each one. By consious act of will, the caster is able to leave any or all of his own items behind with the exeption of cursed items which always return to their owner. Items such as gags, manacles and nooses may be purposely left behind for immediate use by the other person or being. The only restraint is that a creature must be able to fit in the area that the mage is in at the time of casting. This means that a shrunken mage in a mouse hole would be unable to trade places with a normal sized human, nor could a normal sized mage trade places with a songbird in a small cage. The caster assumes the physical position of the other creature and vice verse. This means that when a mage lying on her back in the middle of the road makes an exchange with a man crouching behind a tree, the mage does not end up lying on her back behind the tree, she will be crouching behind the tree in the same manner as the man and the man does not find himself crouching in the middle of the road, but lying on his back instead. Other physical aspects of the two creatures are also exchanged, such as velocity and direction of travel. This spell cannot be cast through any type of scrying device. The great mage Agthenarihaa is fond of using this spell to put key people on a nearby ship into custody aboard her own ship and then teleporting back to her ship immediately. Keep (Alteration, Enchantment/Charm) Level: 5th Range: 0 Duration: Instantaneous Area of Effect: Special Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 7 Saving Throw: none This versatile spell is the means by which such esoteric things as the shadow of a moth or the voice of a princess are collected for later use by the wizard. Prior to casting this spell the wizard must have a suitable container for the thing to be collected. Voices and sounds require a small silver box; shadows and breaths must be kept in appropriately constructed vials; odors and sights are kept in fine bags made of silk or rarer materials. The next step in collecting things of this sort is ensuring control of the phenomena to be collected, usually accomplished by use of certain specialized spells. For instance, a wizard using a Capture Voice spell can place the captured voice directly into a silver box with this spell. A Collect Sound or Odor spell, while useful under a wide variety of circumstances, does not allow the caster to keep the collected sounds or odors past the duration of the spell; this spell is required to do so and can even single out a particular sound or odor to keep from a large collection. A caster who has collected many sounds or odors may keep as many of them as there are containers available. The caster of a Manipulate Normal Shadows spell can move a normal shadow into an obsidian vial without this spell, but without this spell it cannot be kept past the expiration of the Manipulate Normal Shadows spell. To collect the the breath of a frog, the caster must first charm the animal using Charm Animals, then cause it to breathe into a vial made of crystal while the wizard casts this spell. Keeping the sight of an owl requires the same process, substituting look for breathe and a fine silk bag for the crystal vial. In addition to the container and the substance to be kept, material components include a tiny fist carved from marble and the wizard's soul dagger. The common practice amongst wizards who know this spell of wearing the marble fist on a necklace has given rise to totally unfounded rumors of an organized wizard's movement whose goals vary from rumor to rumor. Spell Mask (Alteration, Illusion/Phantasm) Level: 6th Range: 0 Duration: Permanent Area of Effect: the caster's next spell Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 8 Saving Throw: none A Spell Mask is cast by a wizard to prevent the next spell cast from being revealed in the event that some other wizard subsequently uses a Spell Echo spell in the area that the wizard intends to cast it. If a wizard is so foolish as to cast Spell Mask in the same area that he intends to cast his next spell, use of Spell Echo in that area will reveal the casting of Spell Mask but not the spell masked by it. The wizard must cast his next spell within three turns or the spell dissipates and is wasted. This spell cannot mask spells cast by other wizards or by priests. Only the caster's own next spell may be masked. The material components are a small silk mask, the shadow of any royal personage, an eye taken from a blind man and the wizard's soul dagger. The silk mask and shadow are consumed by the spell. Bogus Spell Echo (Illusion/Phantasm) Level: 7th Range: 0 Duration: Permanent Area of Effect: Special Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 2 turns (20 minutes) Saving Throw: none This spell is always cast under the protection of a Spell Mask, for it allows the caster to insert a false vision into any future Spell Echo display. Without Spell Mask, a Spell Echo will show the casting of this spell and the vision produced by it, effectively neutralizing any impact the vision may have had and revealing to any observers the existence of this spell. The vision may be of any person known well by the caster, including his or her self, casting any spell known or seen cast two or more times by the caster. Incongruous visions, such as a priest casting a wizard spell, gives the observers who make intelligence AND wisdom checks an indication that the vision seen has been altered from reality in some manner. An observer who makes only one of the checks will note the incongruity, but will not realize that the vision itself is at fault unless the observer in question is familiar with the Bogus Spell Echo spell. This spell is used primarily by criminal mages to implicate someone other than themselves during any subsequent investigation. The material components are mimic ichor, a thin iron rod at least four feet long, a tuning fork, two black candles which must be lit during casting, a sliver of ice or nine drops of water which have once been frozen and the wizard's soul dagger. The mimic ichor, ice and candles are all consumed by the spell. Have fun! Been Had the Fool "I lost my soul when I fell to Earth.
